Why Do I Wake Up At 5am? 8 Reasons Why We Should Rise At 5am.

I believe if we learn, we learn from the best. That’s the reason why I started studying how people become successful and what helps them succeed. Recently, I came across a post on Business Insider, about 21 Successful People Who Wake Up Incredibly Early. It is mentioned that successful entrepreneurs such as Apple CEO Tim Cook, Virgin Group founder and chairman Richard Branson, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, RISING UP REALLY EARLY is one of their keys to success.

In this post, I’m going to walk you through 8 reasons why it is important to wake up at 5am.

Why should we wake up at 5am?

1. We are more productive.

Studies, conducted by different professionals such as Nolan Pope and Harvard Biologist Christoph Randler, have already proven that we are more productive and proactive in the morning. Morning risers tend to have a clear direction of what their goals are in the long term. And it is easier for them to ADOPT and MAINTAIN NEW HABITS. Plus, an increase in proactiveness leads to a rise in productivity. Morning risers are willing to TACKLE NEW CHALLENGES. For me, I used to be afraid of the problems I should face. I used to find tons of thousands of excuses to avoid them. But since I started waking up at 5am, I realize tackle them is the only way and challenges are essential if I want to achieve my goal.

 

2. There are fewer distractions.

At 5am, normally everyone is still on their bed. So if you start your day at 5am. It means that there are NO WHATSAPP, NO TWITTER, NO SOCIAL MEDIA disturbing us. Being obsessed with our smartphone and the Internet is one of the reasons why our work-efficiency is so low. Therefore, as long as we restrain ourselves not to use check our Instagram or whatever the things are that disturb us, early morning hours is our best time to COMMUNICATE WITH OURSELVES. REFLECTION is also necessary if we want to succeed. We should be the one who knows us the best. And we must keep tracking ourselves to see whether there’s something we can do to improve. Plus, communicating with ourselves helps us CALM OURSELVES DOWN and get rid of the stress, which also improves our work-efficiency. Remember, early morning is the ‘ME’ time.

 

3. We can have a nice breakfast.

Most of us wake up at the last minute before we go to work or go to school. Hence, we often have our breakfast casually or some of us even skip our breakfast. I used to be the same kind of person. However, now I rise at 5am, and I am able to enjoy my breakfast, which provides me with enough energy and nutrition in the morning. Research by Charles Spence showed that breakfast is really the MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY. A nice breakfast improves our HEALTH, WELL-BEING and ABILITY TO MEMORIZE. Therefore, I am able to do my work way more efficiently than before.

 

4. We have more time than others.

If we work 9-5, we usually wake up between 730am to 8am. So if we wake up at 5am, we have an extra 2.5 to 3 hours before the others start their day. If we want to succeed and achieve our goals, we must spend way more time to work hard. Imagine if we spend 2 non-working hours every day to do the work that helps up achieve our goals, we will have an extra 14 hours EVERY WEEK, 56 hours EVERY MONTH, and 672 hours EVERY YEAR, excluding the fact that we can spend more time during the weekend. You’ll see how different it is when you utilize these 2 extra hours every day to become successful, just by rising at 5am.

 

5. We can exercise.

It is not necessary to exercise in the morning, but for normal students or people who work 9-5, we may feel tired after school or work. Also, if we exercise at night, we would not be able to sleep earlier because we should take at least an hour to workout, and we are pumped up after we exercise. So, in the morning, there is NO EXCUSE for us to skip our workout. Exercising regularly benefits us both PHYSICALLY and MENTALLY. It strengthens not only our body, maintains good health, but also strengthens our MIND, which is one of the essential elements to succeed.

 

6. We are more organized.

Another benefit of being a morning riser is that we can become more organized. Earning ourselves extra time means we are able to make a to-do list of the day every morning. The TO-DO LIST doesn’t have to be as detailed as an agenda (You’re very welcome to do so though), at least we mark down 3 MOST IMPORTANT TASKS we need to finish that day. It helps us clear our mind before we solve our problems, so that we will not panic, and at last solving none of them. Step by step we will get way closer to our goals.

 

7. We are more self-disciplined.

I know it is comfortable to stay in our bed, wake up whenever we want, but if we want to achieve our goals, we need to be self-disciplined. Stay in our bed and just messing with our phone watching Youtube videos all day long WON’T help us achieve our goals. ACTION is the one helping us. We must abandon the bad habits that blocking us on our journey to success. There are tons of many temptations and thoughts discouraging us every second in our lives. Rising early is one of the tools for us to PRACTISE how to be SELF-DISCIPLINED. We are the only ones who are responsible for ourselves, NOT OTHERS.

 

8. We are more motivated.

I consider waking up at 5am as an achievement every day. I know it is not that big of a deal to be a morning riser, but the point is that motivates me. You know what? Before we succeed, we have to fail way more times than we can imagine. To achieve our goals, we need to be DIFFERENT. To be different, we need to ignore what ordinary people say. Sometimes we may have to deal with challenges alone, we may feel lost, but there’s only one person who’s always by our side, OURSELVES. And that’s why motivation is essential. When I have doubt to myself, I find different ways to motivate myself, to hypnotise myself so that, no matter how hard it is, I can COME THROUGH IT, and I can achieve my goal.

Waking up at 5am really benefits me on different aspects, I feel healthier, happier and most importantly, I am closer to my goal, FINANCIAL FREEDOM!
